Senator Boozman Leads Roundtable Discussion at Farm Credit
U.S. Senator John Boozman visited Farm Credit of Western Arkansas to discuss agricultural conditions and economic outlooks October 16.
On October 16, 2024, U.S. Senator John Boozman and representatives from across Arkansas gathered at Farm Credit of Western Arkansas’ Corporate Headquarters in Russellville for a roundtable discussion concerning agricultural conditions and economic outlooks.
The discussion focused on the challenging economic conditions currently facing the agricultural sector, which have left many producers under significant financial strain, and in some cases, struggling to keep their operations running. Contributing factors identified by representatives included recent and earlier extreme weather events, low commodity prices, and rising input costs. Without meaningful changes, these economic pressures are likely to continue, posing ongoing hardships for producers.
During the roundtable, participants highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive five-year Farm Bill with a stronger safety net to help farmers manage the challenges of fluctuating commodity prices and rising input costs. Senator Boozman emphasized his support for an enhanced version of the bill, which he believes is essential for providing stability and support to producers amid the current economic uncertainties.
Representation at the discussion included Russellville Mayor Fred Teague, Pope County Judge Ben Cross, State Representative Matt Duffield, State Senator Breanne Davis, and representatives from the Farm Credit Associations of Arkansas. Representatives from various organizations and committees were also in attendance, including those from the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee.
John Boozman is Arkansas’s senior U.S. Senator and the dean of the state’s Congressional delegation. He serves on the Committee on Appropriations, the Committee on the Environment and Public Works, and is the Ranking Member of the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Senator Boozman for his efforts to pass an improved five-year Farm Bill and his continued commitment to Arkansas agriculture.
